TOP 5 Best Western Games of 2022 & 2023

As popular as the Wild West has historically been for movies and TV, it has had precious few video game adaptations and even fewer successful ones. Everybody is familiar with Rockstar Game’s incredible cowboy simulator Read Dead Redemption series (which will hopefully get a third entry to close out the trilogy in the near future), and maybe a few know about GUN and Call of Juarez, but entries in these series are many years apart and fade from memory fairly quickly. Hopefully there will be more substantial Western video game experiences for fans to look forward to, especially with this list of the top 5 western video games to get wild in for 2022 and 2023.

Duster

Experience the Wild West in wacky 8-bit action with Coldrice Games’ Duster. This Western roguelite features a randomly generated map with multiple biomes like forests, deserts, and mountains, a weather system, and a day-night cycle. Play as a custom cowboy with your own choice of gear, which will change the flow of gameplay depending on what you equip. Unlock different hats and better equipment as you play to allow for different strategies in your wild west adventure. Fight for survival in a cruel world full of ailments like cholera and dysentery while you avoid injuries like broken bones. It’s not just illness and broken bones you need to worry about, though, as you will be fighting wolves, bears, and even other outlaws. Should you fall, silly deaths await you, complete with hilarious tombstones. Scavenge for supplies and manage your food, ammo, bandages, and more. Visit towns to take on missions, trade, and purchase critical supplies. Decide if you will play violently or peacefully when Duster arrives on PC in the first quarter of 2022.

Wild West Dynasty

A realistic first-person western RPG experience awaits you in Virtual Magic Games’ Wild West Dynasty. In it, you play as a lonely cowpoke who finds an abandoned ranch and decides to stay there. As you hunt, gathering food and selling hides will draw attention to your ranch, attracting settlers looking for a place to live. Provide food and prosperity to these early few, and as you repair and expand your ranch it will grow into a Wild West kingdom! Build a classic Western town, complete with a saloon, a sheriff’s office, a general store, and even hotels. This notoriety will draw the attention of bandits, so be ready to defend your township at the drop of a 10-gallon hat. The world outside of your town is big as well; Wild West Dynasty features a huge open 3D world full of other activities like gold mining and rodeos. Weird West

Get immersed in WolfEye Studios Immersive Simulation Western Weird West. This game is being crafted by the former co-creators of Dishonored and Prey and is looking to be their next big successful project. Take control of several different characters, all with their own motivations and equipment, on their personal origin story. These stories all take place in the same strange land full of dark fantasy influences and unnerving fantastical creatures, and while they are separate stories, they all converge in the final chapter for an incredible ending reveal. Explore the strange when Weird West makes its way to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 31st, 2022.

Blood West

Play as a revenant hero summoned by the spirits of the fallen natives of the West in Hyperstange’s Blood West. This immersive stealth horror FPS game features intense combat and stressful stealth against eldritch horrors of all types. Explore and scavenge this wicked west on missions to find a way to end the curse that has consumed the frontier, and maybe also a place where your restless spirit can find peace. Manage your resources and advance your character through trait-based progression through nonlinear gameplay. Evil West

Finally, we have another bombastic, over-the-top action experience coming courtesy of the makers of Hard Reset and Shadow Warrior, Flying Wild Hog. Their new game, Evil West, features the same visceral explosive combat that they are known for, but this time it is in a horror-tinged Wild West universe where legends are retold. You play as a member of a top-secret vampire-hunting institute on a mission to repel a vampiric horde. As the last line of defense between humanity and these blood-sucking monsters, it is your duty to put them down for good. Use your upgradeable guns, lightning-powered gauntlets, and a host of gadgets to accomplish your missions. Unlock perks to shape your own preferred style of play throughout the narrative-driven campaign. Electrify some fanged beasts when Evil West lands on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PC in 2022.
