How to Call 3-2 Zone / 2-3 Zone Defense in NBA 2K23

Zone defenses are certain areas on the court that players are assigned to defend. It’s the counterpart to offensive zones, which are quite effective at thwarting the opponents’ advance. You’ll need to learn how to apply pressure consistently and learn all your teammates’ icons by heart.

HOW TO CALL 3-2 ZONE / 2-3 ZONE

3-2 ZONE

As a disruptive half-court zone defense, the 3-2 zone disrupts the opponent’s offensive strategy and set plays. The strategy is quite effective at shutting down the wings. It forces the opponents to start the offensive with a skip pass, which significantly limits their options. This makes them more predictable. So, whether they approach you from a corner or mid-range play, you’ll always be at the ready.

The 3-2 zone is great for breaking the opponent’s momentum and the zone also creates quite an effective rebound triangle.

The 3-2 zone defense challenges the offense’s ability to clearly see the defensive strategy, thereby preventing their ability to adjust their play accordingly. You can also try different rotations and variations to perplex the offense. It forces them to venture outside of their comfort zone in search of open shots.

The formation, however, is not effective against good shooters who specialize in three pointers. The 3-2 zone is also susceptible to dribble penetration, unless you’re rotating players quickly.

2-3 Zone

The 2-3 zone defense consists of two players across the top of the zone near each high post. They are known as the ‘guards’. Two players a step outside of each block are known as the ‘forwards’, and a player in the middle of the key is referred to as the ‘center’.

The formation protects the paint and limits fouling to a significant degree.

You also get numerous fast break opportunities since both guards are at the top.
