The TOP 5 Futuristic Open-World Games Like Cyberpunk 2077

After years of hype and anticipation, Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the biggest game releases in recent memory, but unfortunately, it failed to live up to the hype. Billed as a big-budget futuristic RPG with branching story paths and heightened immersion, Cyberpunk 2077 was a broken and buggy mess. Even after some patches and updates, players are eager to find other futuristic open-world games like Cyberpunk 2077, so they can get their sci-fi fix. If you consider yourself one of the many gamers who were disappointed by Cyberpunk 2077‘s release, we have a few suggestions for you.

Today, we’re listing off 5 futuristic open-world games like Cyberpunk 2077 that are worth your time. If you’re sick of enduring the glitches and mediocrity of Night City, consider jumping into any of these fantastic futuristic open-world games!

Watch Dogs: Legion

Developed by Ubisoft, Watch Dogs is a franchise that started in 2014 as a Grand Theft Auto clone with futuristic vibes. While the sequel, Watch Dogs 2, contained its fair share of cutting-edge tech, the third game, Watch Dogs: Legion, is firmly set in the future. Playing as a new member of the hacker group DedSec, it’s your job to explore the futuristic, dystopian city of London as you try to clear your name after being framed for a terrorist attack.

Like the other Watch Dogs games, Watch Dogs: Legion contains free-form, open-world progression, offering a map that’s littered with missions, activities, and collectibles. Most notably, Legion allows you to recruit any NPC on the street, with different characters possessing unique abilities based on their career. Regardless of your extra abilities, you’ll need to brush up on your hacking and stealth skills as you take on the ruthless streets of London.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is the fourth game in the Deus Ex series, and as it stands, is one of the best futuristic open-world games like Cyberpunk 2077. Played from a first-person perspective, the game follows Adam Jensen, a cybernetic-augmented agent with immense speed and killing power. Set in 2029, the world has grown volatile, with non-augmented humans and augmented humans at odds with each other. Embroiled in a vast conspiracy that involves biological weapons and false-flag attacks, Adam must use his technologically-advanced skills to save the day. Much like Cyberpunk 2077 promised, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided offers a streamlined system that prioritizes player freedom, allowing you to level up in different ways and modify Adam with ideal cybernetics. Whether you choose to be a merciless killer or a stealthy hacker, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is a futuristic open-world game like Cyberpunk 2077 that actually lives up to the hype.

Agents of Mayhem

If you’re looking for futuristic open-world games like Cyberpunk 2077, but you aren’t interested in a particularly serious story, Agents of Mayhem is a great choice. Developed by Volition, the same creators of the Saint’s Row series, this third-person open-world action game fuses chaotic gameplay with irreverent humor to notable success. Set in a futuristic version of Seoul, South Korea, the game follows an organization called MAYHEM that fights against a group of supervillains known as LEGION. Utilizing a cast of super-powered soldiers called agents, it’s your job to explore the city of tomorrow and take down LEGION along the way.

Each agent possesses unique powers, including useful gadgets and devastating super abilities, which can be used to cause destruction all around the city. With its wacky story, explosive gameplay, and cool futuristic setting, Agents of Mayhem is a solid choice when looking for alternatives to Cyberpunk 2077.

The Ascent

If you’re interested in something slightly different than your standard run-and-gun futuristic shooter, The Ascent provides an intriguing cyberpunk world to explore. Playable either in solo or co-op, The Ascent is an isometric, twin-stick shooter with RPG elements and loads of personality. Set in a dense futuristic city called Veles, the game follows your custom character, an indentured servant to the all-seeing and insidious “Ascent Group”.

After the Ascent Group is mysteriously dismantled, Veles experiences a civil war of sorts, with various factions fighting for control. To discover the secret behind the Ascent Group and stop the war in Veles, you must complete a variety of missions as you upgrade your character and obtain better loot. Overall, The Ascent is an enjoyable twin-stick shooter and a futuristic open-world game like Cyberpunk 2077 that’s best played with friends.

Starfield

Looking ahead at upcoming titles coming in 2022, there’s one stand-out upcoming futuristic open-world game that fans of Cyberpunk 2077 will undoubtedly enjoy, and that’s Starfield. In terms of overall hype, Starfield rivals Cyberpunk 2077, as it is a brand new IP from the talented creators at Bethesda Games. Similar to their Fallout and Elder Scrolls franchises, Starfield promises an imaginative first-person RPG thrill-ride set in the great expanses of space, where you play as a pioneer adventurer who sets out to investigate various planets. While there aren’t many details about the gameplay, fans should expect an immersive world packed with quests to complete, awesome locations to explore, and intriguing characters. While Cyberpunk 2077 missed the mark, hopefully, Starfield will be a hit when it comes out in November of this year. Either way, we’re excited to play it!
