NBA 2K23: Ultimate Dribbling Guide
/Dribbling is the foundation of basketball. It’s the only technique that allows you to maintain possession of the ball as you advance towards the hoop. The move also allows you to create space between you and your opponent while you’re fishing for a shot. This guide contains a complete list of dribbling controls for PS4 & PS5 as well as Xbox One & X|S to help master the necessary skills needed to become a pro dribbler.
NBA 2K23 DRIBBLING CONTROLS
- NBA 2K23 introduces new features that make dribbling even more fun and competitive. These new gesture combos present even more combo opportunities than in the previous gen.
- Switchback Gestures now do specific signature hesitation cross and double cross combo moves. You can even assign these as a part of your Moving Crossover signature package which now offers 28 options instead of 15.
- By rhythmically rocking the Pro Stick back and forth, you can chain normal signature size-ups and even gain access to a different collection of Signature combos.
- Attacking Size-ups also received a significant buff. Although they looked cool, they never really served a purpose. Now with the new update, the size-ups provide more side-to-side movement, making them much more efficient at forcing the defenders to drop and shift.
- However, there is a drawback to this new mechanic. Spamming several dribble moves together will deplete your energy more quickly than before.Â

Between the Legs | Flick the Right Stick left or right towards your free hand. |
Momentum Between the Legs Cross | Hold RT/R2 and flick Right Stick left or right towards your free hand. |
Between the Legs Escape | Hold the Right Stick left or light towards your free hand. |
Behind the Back | Flick the Right Stick down to the left or light towards your free hand. |
Explosive Behind the Back | Hold R2/RT and flick both Right Stick diagonally down, and after a split-second flick the left stick diagonally up towards your free hand. |
Behind the Back Wrap Escape | Hold RT/R2 and flick Right Stick down. |
In and Out | Hold RT/R2 and flick the Right Stick up. |
Sprint | Hold RT/R2 and press the Left Stick in any direction to sprint. |
Stepback | While you’re sprinting, Hold RT/R2 and flick Right Stick down. |
Split Dribble | Hold RT/R2 and flick Right Stick down to the left or right of your free hand and then hold the Left Stick up to the left or right of your free hand. |
Crossover | Flick the Right Stick diagonally up towards your free hand. |
Momentum Crossover | Hold R2 and flick Right Stick diagonally up toward your free hand. |
Crossover Escape | Hold Right Stick diagonally up towards your free hand. |
Signature Size-up Chains | Lets you execute signature size-up combos when you’re quickly performing standing dribbles. |
Spin | Rotate Right Stick clockwise before releasing. |
Half Spin | While you’re dribbling, rotate the Right Stick in a quarter circle from your ball hand towards up. |
Hesitation | Flick the Right Stick right. |
Momentum Hesitation | Hold RT/R2 and flick Right Stick right while you’re dribbling with your right hand. |
Hesitation Escape | Hold the Right Stick towards the ball hand while dribbling. |
Hold Off Defenders | While dribbling, Hold LT/L2 to shield the ball with your body. |
Hard Stop/Stutter | Hold LT/L2 to break off defenders and prepare to take a clear shot. |
Signature Size-up | Move and hold Right Stick up while doing a standing dribble. |
Signature Park Size-up | Tap LT/L2 repeatedly while doing a standing dribble. |
Triple Threat Quick Jab | Flick Right Stick up. |
Triple Threat Front Jab | Flick Right Stick right. |
Triple Threat Pump Fake | Flick Right Stick down. |
Triple Threat Mid Stepover | Move Right Stick up and left before quickly releasing it. |
Triple Threat Full Stepover | Flick Right Stick left. |
Triple Threat Hesitation | Hold RT/R2 and flick Right Stick right or left. |
