Dominions 6: How to Use Magic Gems

Magic Gems, yep those cool little stones, are what you need for serious arcane power in Dominions 6. Here’s how it works: these gems get generated by magic sites & if you own the site, bingo! You’ll see these gems in your magic resource treasury every turn. But hereโ€™s a twist: you gotta have a link through friendly territory to a province with a lab… No link, no gems, as simple as that.

The magic resource treasury is your go-to place to check out your gem stash (accessible with the F7 key). It lists all the gems you have and the rate at which you’re acquiring new ones. Now, here’s a neat trick: the “pool” button. Click it, and you can collect all the gems from your commanders stationed in a province with a lab. This is particularly handy for blood hunters who frequently need to move slaves from their inventory to the national pool.

Transferring Gems

Youโ€™ve got a choice at the bottom of the magic resource screen. Clicking this opens up a new window, letting you transfer gems between commanders by clicking on their gem numbers. Itโ€™s pretty straightforward.

Plus thereโ€™s another common way: click on a commanderโ€™s gem inventory when youโ€™re checking out their stats; itโ€™s all about keeping your best-equipped for whatever comes next…

Using Gems in Combat

Mages can use these gems for a boost in combat: either to amp up their skill level or to cut down on fatigue. But keep in mind, a mage can only use as many gems as they got skill levels each turn.

Using a gem gives a caster a one-up in their magic path, perfect for casting those tough spells or for less tiring magic… But remember, no boosting your skill level by more than one with a gem & you can’t learn new paths with them either.

AI and Scripting Spells

Hereโ€™s the cool part: you can script spells your mage ainโ€™t skilled enough for yet & just load them up with the needed gems. The AI also steps in to use extra gems for reducing fatigue on spells your mage knows. But how your gems get used is mostly up to the AI. If you’re into saving resources, hit the “conservative gem use” box… this makes sure your mage uses gems just for those big moments, saving up for the real big battles.
