Dominions 6: Forts

Dominions 6: Forts

Forts in Dominions 6 are super important, they’re not just there for looks… They’ve got a bunch of crucial roles: think gathering resources, distributing supplies to other areas & offering a safe spot for your troops during sieges… Each fort type has its own special features, so choosing which one to build & upgrade is a big deal.

Fortress Types

Here’s a quick rundown on the different forts:

Palisades: These are your basic level forts. They cost 1000 gold & take 5 months to build… You get a bit of an admin point boost, some help with recruitment & they have decent storage and wall strength.

Fortress: A notch above Palisades, these cost you 600 gold & 3 months of building time. They offer better admin points, more recruitment perks, greater storage capacity & stronger walls.

Castle: With the same cost & build time as a Fortress, Castles offer even more benefits. They provide 45 admin command points, a 100% increase in recruitment points, a massive supply storage of 2500, & wall integrity of 1000.

Citadel: Similar in cost & build time to Castles, Citadels offer even greater advantages. They offer 60 admin command points, a 125% increase in recruitment points, an enormous supply storage of 7500, & wall integrity of 1500.

Grand Citadel: The most advanced fort, costing 1000 gold & taking 5 months to build; they offer the highest benefits: 70 admin command points, a 150% increase in recruitment points, the largest supply storage of 10000 and the strongest wall integrity at 2000.

The numbers for “Build” indicate the gold & months required for each stage of construction… Itโ€™s important to note that each level of fort must be built on the previous one, & the months listed are for that specific stage only, For instance, building a palisade would take 600 gold & four months, & then upgrading it to a fortress requires an additional 300 gold & two months… The attributes of each fort level don’t stack; the newer fort’s attributes replace the older ones.

The era of the game (Early, Middle, or Late) dictates the levels of forts available to most nations. Standard forts for each era are: Early Age – fortress; Middle Age – castle; Late Age – citadel… Some nations have unique fort-building capabilities, like Yomi, which can only build primitive forts, while others, like EA Ermor, can build advanced forts compared to the standard of their era.

Certain nations, like Marignon & Ulm in the Middle Age, have masons capable of constructing forts one level higher than normal… This is not a specific nation trait but rather a trait of certain commanders available to that nation at that time, For instance, a commander with the mason trait can be used to construct higher-level forts, including the grand citadel, which is only available to nations capable of building a citadel & that also have a mason. The grand citadel shares the same icon as the citadel.

Admin and Defense Features

The admin value of a fort determines how efficiently it collects resources from neighboring provinces & also affects the supply propagation into nearby provinces… The formula for this is (Administration * 6) / (Distance + 1), For example, a fortress with an admin value of 50 contributes 150 supply to adjacent provinces, & the maximum distance for this supply propagation is four provinces. Administration also boosts the income of a province by Admin / 2%… So, a fort with an Admin value of 30 would increase the income by 15% in any province where it’s built.

The defense value of a fort indicates the amount of damage it must sustain from an enemy siege before it can be attacked. The strength comparison between the sieging & besieged forces at a fortress each turn determines the amount of damage done to the fortress’s defense value… The supply value of a fortress determines how many units it can support during a siege but doesn’t affect the distribution of supply to surrounding province..

Castle Guards & Wall Defenders

Forts also have defense units, namely Castle Guards & Wall Defenders, who defend the fort during storms… Wall Defenders are stationed on the walls, & Castle Guards start behind the gate. These units replenish for each fight… Wall Defenders have unique attributes: they never run out of ammunition, can be attacked from the stairs inside the walls or by Flying or Ethereal units, have a 20% increased missile range, & some protection from missiles. The wall defense is akin to a tower shield with a Protection value of 30.

So yeah, forts are a major part of this game. They play a huge role in how you manage resources, plan your strategy & defend your turf. Choosing the right fort, upgrading wisely & thinking about placement โ€“ thatโ€™s what it takes to really get ahead in this game…
