Mojang
Mojang Studios is the Swedish game development studio best known for creating the global phenomenon Minecraft—aka that game where you can punch trees, build castles, fight cubes, and accidentally set your house on fire with lava.
Founded in 2009 by Markus “Notch” Persson, Mojang went from indie darling to gaming juggernaut faster than you can say “creeper blew up my base.” After Minecraft exploded in popularity, Microsoft said “yoink” and acquired Mojang in 2014 for a cool $2.5 billion. Since then, Mojang has continued to expand the Minecraft universe with spinoffs like Minecraft Dungeons (dungeon crawling, loot-hoarding fun) and Minecraft Legends (strategy-lite meets blocky chaos).
But despite the fame, Mojang’s vibe remains weirdly wholesome. Their games promote creativity, exploration, and occasionally punching pigs. They’ve also dabbled in other projects like Scrolls (RIP) and regularly release updates that keep Minecraft fresh, bizarre, and occasionally confusing.
So yeah—Mojang Studios: the house that built a blocky empire, powered by redstone and sheer imagination.
