War Thunder - Camera Views Explained

In-Game Cameras

There are several types of in-game cameras:

  • Third Person: the camera is positioned behind your vehicle. Allows 360-degree visibility.

  • Cockpit: the camera is inside the plane’s cockpit. You see the instrument panel and have the same visibility as a pilot in a real aircraft. (only available in aircraft).

  • Virtual Cockpit: similar to the Cockpit view, but the cockpit is replaced with graphical representations of cockpit gauges. (only available in aircraft).

  • Air Gunner View: A third-person view showing the gunner’s reticule, and centered on the gunner’s seat (if the aircraft has one). Gunners can be manually controlled from this camera view. (only available on specific aircraft).

  • Bombsight: A bombsight was often mounted on bombers to use when selecting a target and aiming. (only available on specific aircraft).

  • Ground Sight View (sniper): A representation of the Gunner’s reticule allowing you to judge and direct fire more accurately. (only available in ground vehicles).

  • Binocular View: A representation of the ‘tank’ commanders view allowing a player to survey the territory accurately without turning the turret and cannon. (only available in ground vehicles).

  • Naval Fire Director: A Binocular like targeting view that permits accurate gauging of naval vessel fire. (only available in naval vessels).

Target Camera

You have a special aid for aerial combat, a target camera which has a strong influence on gameplay, making it even more exciting. Select your target and turn on the target camera. This will lock the camera to whichever aerial or ground target you wish to attack allowing you to closely monitor your target’s actions, and select the most appropriate tactic to engage it. You can also use the target camera to keep track of a foe that is attacking you from behind. Since it allows you to see the attacker, you are able to select the most effective evasive maneuver. When flying a bomber, you can use the target camera for bomb aiming. Select a ground target, turn on the target camera and, once the bomb indicator covers the target, drop the bombs. Continue looking using the target camera after that and you will observe your bombs impact.
