Praey for the Gods – How to Beat The First Boss
SIGILS: Head, Shoulder (Right), Back
GRAPPLE POINTS: Waist
ITEMS REQUIRED: None
Once you’ve interacted with the sigil, a cutscene will play as the mound of earth and rock reveals itself to be the first boss of the game, which I’ve nicknamed “The First”. When the cutscene finishes, you will be on the ground in front of it. There are multiple ways to get onto this boss, but first, it’s recommended to briefly explore the arena before engaging in the fight.
There are two braziers on the ground, each with a piece of Cooked Meat skewered on spikes nearby. It’s worth collecting these as they can refill your hunger and health meters later on. Additionally, there are two berry bushes where you can gather Berries. Always keep your eye on the boss, however, as it can use a Frost Breath ranged attack that rapidly depletes your warmth meter.
You can climb onto the boss by grabbing onto the fur on its legs and climbing up to its waist, where there is a small area to regain your stamina. From here, you can continue climbing up its back. Alternatively, you can run behind the boss to find a grapple point on its waist, which allows you to skip the leg climb altogether. However, the best way to reach the top is by finding the partially-collapsed stone structures on the right side of the arena.
You can climb or use a Grappling Hook to reach the top, where a sigil can be found. Interacting with this sigil stuns the boss for a generous amount of time, causing it to fall and lower its head. When this happens, you can drop down onto its head and attack the sigil there. You only need to do this twice, as this is the same sigil used to awaken the creature. If you drop down quickly, you’ll be able to attack twice and move onto the boss’ shoulders before it can retaliate.
The boss has two other sigils: one on its right shoulder and one on its back. Both need to be attacked three times before the boss will fall. After attacking one of its sigils, the boss will start to shake to throw you off—tap the [RMB] rapidly to avoid losing too much stamina. Once it stops, attack a sigil as soon as you can, as you’ll have limited time before it shakes again.
The sigil on its shoulder is on a flat area, allowing you to press [F] to stop climbing and stand there to regain stamina. This is essential before attempting to attack the sigil on its back, where there is no place to rest. If you climbed from the ground, try regaining stamina on the shoulder before attacking the back sigil to avoid being thrown off.
Once you’ve attacked all three of the boss’ sigils three times, the boss will fall, and a cutscene will play, transporting you to “The Temple”.
