Galactic Civilizations® I: Ultimate Edition – PC Keyboard Controls

This guide covers all the essential keyboard controls for Galactic Civilizations I on PC. Whether you’re managing fleets, exploring the galaxy, or navigating menus, these hotkeys will help streamline your turns and make your empire run more efficiently.

Movement & Ship Commands

• Arrow Keys – Move selected ship in the chosen direction

• Numpad Keys – Also move ships (Num Lock must be active)

• S – Set ship to Sentry Mode (only activates if an alien enters sensor range)

• G – Set ship to Guard Mode (only activates if an enemy alien appears)

• Tab – Jump to the next ship with available moves

• Spacebar – Skip the selected ship’s turn

• F – Combine ships into a fleet (if on the same tile)

• U – Break a fleet into individual ships

• C – Center camera on the selected ship

Game Views & Menus

• F1 – Open Galactic Map

• F2 – View Planet List

• F3 – View Ship List

• F4 – Open Domestic Policy

• F5 – Open Foreign Policy

• F6 – Open Technology Policy

• F7 – View first planet in your civilization

• F9 – Open Tactical Map

General Gameplay Shortcuts

• Ctrl + R – Refresh sensors across the galaxy

• Enter – End your current turn

• Esc – Close a dialog or open the Game Options menu

• A – Command a survey ship to auto-survey

• Ctrl + N – Generate a new galaxy using current settings
