In Civilization VI, you can save or load your game at any time during play, making it easy to pick up where you left off or experiment without fear of losing progress.
Saving a Game
To save your game:
- Click the Game Menu button at the upper-right of the main game screen (or press ESC).
- Select Save Game to create a new save file.
Saved Game Location
By default, saved games are stored in your Windows My Documents folder. For example, if your username is johnDoe, your saved games are located at:
C: → Users → johnDoe → Documents → My Games → Sid Meier’s Civilization VI → Saves
You cannot change the default save directory.
Loading a Game
At the Start of a Game:
- From the Main Menu, click Single Player → Load Game to access the Load Game screen.
During Play:
- Click the Game Menu button (or press ESC), then click Load Game.
Auto-Save
The game automatically saves each turn. You can adjust auto-save frequency in the Options menu. To load an auto-save:
- Open the Load Game screen.
- Click the Auto-Save button.
- Select the auto-saved game you want and click Load Game.
Quick Save
For fast saving, use Quick Save:
