The inside of a locomotive cab looks like someone spilled a keyboard into a microwave. It’s a mess of buttons and levers… And they all do something important, usually right when you can’t remember which one it is!! So before you end up sending your passenger train to the shadow realm; here are the default controls you actually need to know in Train Sim World 6.

Learning the Rails: Xbox Controller

Modifier Buttons

  • Operations Shift: Press and hold [X] to operate basic train systems like AFB, PZB, and sanding.

 

  • Camera Shift: Press & hold the [Right Stick] to access camera options like switching modes/zooming.

 

 

Essential Loco Controls

These are your most-used controls from the driver’s seat.

 

  • [A]: Use buttons, levers, and switches

 

  • [Y]: Get in or out of the driver’s seat

 

  • [Menu Button]: Pause the game

 

  • [View Button]: View the in-game map

 

  • [Right Trigger]: Increase Throttle

 

  • [Right Bumper]: Decrease Throttle

 

  • [Left Trigger]: Increase Brake

 

  • [Left Bumper]: Decrease Brake

 

  • [Left Stick (Up/Down)]: Zoom camera in and out

 

  • [D-Pad (Left/Right)]: Open and close left or right passenger doors

 

  • Hold [B]: Call the signaller to request permission to proceed

 

  • Click [Right Stick]: Switch between internal and external cameras

 

  • Enter Photo Mode: Click and hold [Right Stick] + hold [D-Pad Down]

 

 

PC Keyboard Controls

Core Driving Controls

  • [W] / [S]: Move reverser forward or back

 

  • [A] / [D]: Increase / Decrease Throttle

 

  • [‘] / [;]: Increase / Decrease Train Brake

 

  • [[] / []]: Increase / Decrease Locomotive Brake

 

  • [Q]: Acknowledge safety system warning (Alerter)

 

  • [Tab]: Call the signaller and request permission to proceed

 

 

Camera & Utility Controls

  • [1]: First-person (on foot) camera

 

  • [2]: Front/rear exterior camera

 

  • [3]: Side-view exterior camera

 

  • [8]: Free camera

 

  • [9]: Open game map

 

  • [Ctrl] + [0]: Reset view to default cab position

 

  • [Esc]: Pause game

 

  • [Shift] + [F]: Open fast travel map

 

  • [Shift] + [Space]: Enter Photo Mode

 

  • [Ctrl] + [F12]: Take a high-resolution screenshot
