TOP 6 Must Play PS5 Exclusives of 2022 and Beyond

Sony’s next-gen console is a strong contender for one of the best consoles of all time. The hardware is solid (whether it fits into your living room in terms of aesthetics will differ from person to person), the performance is outrageous, and the new DualSense controller is a marked improvement over the DUALSHOCK 4 that came before it.

However, a console can only be as good as its games, and the PlayStation 5 has had a few gems come out since the console’s launch, but COVID delays have caused the majority of the heavy hitters to miss their original release dates. While that was in issue in 2020 and 2021, 2022 brings with it the promise of blockbuster after blockbuster for the PS5. While this is by no means every single exclusive coming to the console, there are a few games to keep on your radar on this list of the Top 6 Must Play PS5 Exclusives of 2022 and Beyond.

  1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake

Bioware’s classic 2003 space opera RPG is being remade with the power of net-gen in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic by development studio Aspyr. While there isn’t much information surrounding this project, we do officially know that it is aiming to be a complete ground-up rebuild of an entire generation’s favorite Star Wars game using modern methods and technologies. Unofficially, there are rumors swirling that the game is going to overhaul the combat system to be more action-oriented, much like how Final Fantasy 7 ReMake handles its combat versus how it was originally released. The games mentioned as inspiration for the combat are the newest God of War game and Nioh 2, both of which have very fast-paced combat, a huge difference from the turn-based combat of the original.

The game is only slated to release in 2023, so there’s still lots of time for development, but we should hear more about Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake this year.

  1. Forspoken

The power of the PlayStation 5 is being utilized to bring the world of Athia to life in Forspoken, by Luminous Productions. This action role-playing game stars actress Ella Balinska as Frey, a New Yorker struggling for survival in the big city, who then gets sucked into Athia, a fantasy realm in turmoil where she must… struggle for her survival. Learn and master an array of magic skills that can be used either to combat the many creatures of Athia, or to traverse the diverse landscapes of this world in parkour-like fashion. Frey will need to train to reach her maximum potential in order to take down the tyrant who is selfishly running Athia when Forspoken is unleashed on May 24th, 2022.

  1. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Another Spider-Man adventure is on the way, courtesy of the amazing developers at Insomniac Games. This sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man will pick up the story after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and will feature both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as playable characters, both with unique skills and abilities. Returning from the previous game is the suit system, which provides many different looks for each character through spider suits from across Spider-Man lore, and this time each suit will have a separate version that is infected by the symbiote, perhaps buffing the suits inherent abilities. The only villains announced at the moment are Venom and Kraven the Hunter, but I’m sure more will be announced as we get closer to the game’s release in 2023.

  1. Horizon: Forbidden West

Guerilla Games is close to shipping the next installment of their apocalyptic future sci-fi series Horizon with Horizon: Forbidden West, the sequel to Zero Dawn. This game will also star Aloy as she explores entirely new regions on a mission to find the source and a cure for the Red Blight, a plague that threatens the environment, her friends, and the planet at large. Scale recognizable architecture that has been reclaimed by nature due to the passage of time with brand new climbing mechanics, take on all kinds of enemies, both robotic and human in nature, with advanced combat capabilities, and experience a story presented to you with high-quality graphics that will surely be used as a benchmark for games in the future. Horizon: Forbidden West was has gone gold as of the time of this writing and will be available on February 18th, 2022.

  1. Sifu

Sloclap, the developers of the martial arts game Absolver, are bringing us a brand new martial arts epic with Sifu. This game is a combat-oriented roguelike where each “death” you suffer ages you several years, resulting in less overall health but also imbuing you with increasing levels of strength. Use that strength to your advantage with an arsenal of combos, as well as context-sensitive interactions with your environment to punish waves of enemies. Visually, Sifu is very impressive, using what appears to be an upgraded version of Absolver’s simple, yet detailed art style. We won’t have to wait to throw flashy punches and kicks much longer; Sifu launches on February 8th, 2022.

  1. God of War: Ragnarok

Return to the Nine Realms in Santa Monica Studio’s God of War: Ragnarok, the first sequel in the new franchise that began with 2018’s God of War “requel”. This new entry will follow Kratos and a grown-up Atreus as they encounter new characters, both friend and foe, and attempt to stop the world ending from Ragnarok. Fight new gods and creatures with improved combat mechanics and weapons, and inflict the signature God of War violence on any poor soul who dares stand in your way. God of War: Ragnarok will rock PlayStation 4 and 5 sometime in 2022.

  • Mike Alexander

Mike has been playing video games since he was able to hold a controller, having been fascinated by Sonic 2 on his mom’s Sega Genesis. That fascination and passion for the art form has grown exponentially nearly 30 years later, and he doesn’t see that fading away anytime soon.
