Strings of Fate XI: Magic Dream – New Retro Might and Magic-Like RPG
A New Contender for Classic RPG Fans
This classic-style RPG wants to be the next Might & Magic, and it just landed on Steam Early Access.
Got a soft spot for the good old days of first-person dungeon crawls? If you spent countless hours charting maps in Wizardry or battling goblins in Might and Magic, a new contender has entered the arena. Strings of Fate XI: Magic Dream just hit Steam Early Access, and it’s wearing its old-school inspirations on its chainmail sleeve.
Hybrid Combat and Deep Magic
At its heart this is a classic fantasy adventure where you guide a party of five heroes on a quest to save the world—you know the drill… Where it gets interesting is in its hybrid combat, letting you pause the action to issue tactical commands or just go full real-time hack-and-slash.
The real star, though, might be its magic system. With nine schools of magic and around 100 spells to play with, you can cook up some truly wild builds. Dungeons are, as they should be, labyrinthine gauntlets of puzzles, monsters, and sweet, sweet loot.
Modern Look, Early Access Charm
You might expect a game channeling ’90s RPGs to look, well, old, but Strings of Fate XI gets a surprisingly fresh coat of Unreal Engine paint. The world is colorful and vibrant, and its towns are filled with the usual fantasy roster—merchants, bankers, and folks with far too many problems who need a hero to solve them. Naturally, this being Early Access, you should absolutely expect some jank!! An NPC might stare into the void for a bit too long, a menu might decide to fight you back. It’s all part of the charm. The good news is the developers are already on the case, whacking the game with the patch-hammer to add things like a banking system, new NPCs, and crucial UI improvements.
Steam reviews are currently sitting at “Mixed,” but the potential is shining through. Players are praising the deep magic system and classic dungeon design, even while pointing out that the interface and some rough edges need polishing. The good news is the devs seem to be actively listening to that feedback, which is exactly what you want to see…
If you’re ready to roll the dice on a promising adventure, Strings of Fate XI: Magic Dream is currently available on Steam and it’s shaping up to be a solid RPG for anyone who loves the classics but doesn’t mind a bit of Early Access dust…
