NBA 2K23: How to Shoot Free Throws
/Since free throws are determined by your rating, getting the right shot inputs is critical in NBA 2K23. Some characters are naturally better at free throws compared to others, regardless of how much you practice shooting with them. However, you can still increase your odds of landing shots by taking proper advantage of the shot meter, which is discussed in this guide.
HOW TO SHOOT FREE THROWS IN NBA 2K23
There are two ways to make a free throw in NBA 2K23. The first, aka the timed method, has been in the game from the beginning. Here are the steps:
- On your PS4 or PS5 controller, hold down the Square button. If you’re on the Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, then hold down the X button to activate the shot meter.
- The shot meter spawns above the player’s head.
- To land a perfect shot, you must release the button at the perfect time. In this case, the player will make a perfect shot once the moving white bar touches the black line.
- Even if you miss the black line, try to release the shot button as close to the black line as possible (hopefully within the blue area near it).
The second method uses the Right Stick, which can increase the accuracy by quite a bit. Here are the steps:
- Press and hold down the Right Stick on either your Xbox or PS controllers.Â
- Once the shot meter appears, you can rotate the right stick slightly to the left/right if Free Throw Aiming is enabled.
- Toggle the right stick slightly to line up the shot. This means aligning the tick mark as near to the little black line in the inner blue shaded/area as possible.Â
- Release the Right Stick once you’re close enough to shoot the ball.
HOW TO BE MORE SUCCESSFUL WITH FREE THROWS
- Free throws in the NBA 2K23 use a shot meter. In order to consistently land shots in the game, you must first get used to it. It doesn’t matter if you’re using the pro-stick or shot button, if you want to land those free throws, you have to get used to the meter charging speed.
- The free throw rating also decides how consistently a shooter can land his free throws. However, the game stops giving significant boosts to players with a shot rating above 85. So, with a little practice, players with shot ratings in between 70-80 can land free throws just as easily as players with ratings above 85.
- Although mastering free throws does give you an advantage over other players, you cannot rely solely on this to win your games. We have several NBA 2K23 guides that’ll teach you new moves so that you can score more consistently throughout a game.
